Summary

Buying and selling lower-carbon commodities has always been harder than it should be. Pricing is opaque, supply is hard to locate, and most deals still happen through disconnected conversations.

This isn't a data problem in the sense of the data not existing. Producers are cutting emissions, generating certificates, and building projects at scale. The problem is that the information required by all parties is hard to find. Pricing is opaque. Supply is scattered across brokers, exchanges, and private conversations. Deals get done bilaterally, slowly, and often without either side having full visibility into what else was on the table.

That's true whether you're talking about carbon credits, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), or the broader universe of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) and lower-carbon commodities.

Different products, same structural issue: there’s no single shared place for supply and demand to actually see each other.

For buyers working toward SBTi targets or broader net zero commitments, that gap has real consequences. Sourcing decisions on scope 1, 2, and 3 reductions increasingly depend on credible, verifiable lower-carbon commodities.

But finding, comparing, and trusting that supply takes far longer than it should, and can slow down progress against climate goals.

Introducing Commodity Market Gateway

Commodity Market Gateway is our answer to that gap - a free platform built to connect producers and buyers across all lower-carbon commodities, both physical supply and book and claim.

It's an expansion of Sylvera’s existing Market Gateway, which has been connecting the carbon markets for over three years. In that time, it’s connected over 250 developers to buyers, and today drives an annual quoting stream of more than $1 billion.

Commodity Market Gateway takes that same model - structured discovery, transparent pricing, and direct connections between the right counterparties - and extends it across EACs, RECs, SAF, and other lower-carbon commodities.

The platform gives both buyers and sellers a shared, structured place to find each other, price fairly, and transact with confidence - whether the commodity in question is a carbon credit, a REC, or a unit of SAF.

What it means for producers

Less time spent guessing where demand is, more time spent closing deals with buyers who are actually in-market.

Producers consistently tell us the same things: they don't know who's buying, they don't know what a fair price looks like, and they're leaving value on the table because good performance never reaches the right buyer.

Market Gateway addresses that directly:

  • Win more RFPs — respond directly to buyer requests as they come in, instead of waiting to hear about them secondhand.
  • Secure buyers earlier — list and sell offtakes ahead of production, unlocking financing for decarbonisation before issuance.
  • Find the right prospects — see who's actively buying, so outreach can be targeted rather than speculative.

What it means for buyers

Once platform to meet decarbonisation procurement needs and turn sourcing into a structured, defensible part of the broader climate strategy.

Buyers have too little visibility into who's selling, where supply sits, and whether it has the verification needed to hold up to scrutiny.

Market Gateway helps by making it possible to:

  •  Request Supply from our network that meet your specific sourcing criteria.
  • Connect with producers who have listed the product you’re looking for.
  • Buy with confidence, matching commodities to the compliance and credibility requirements a purchase needs to satisfy.
  • Compare offers by running RFPs and reviewing multiple producer responses side-by-side, rather than negotiating one deal at a time in isolation.

Example use cases

A producer, selling ahead of generation

A low-carbon ammonia producer had output coming online in six months but hadn't yet locked in the financing needed to complete construction, a common bottleneck for lower-carbon commodity producers whose lenders want offtake commitments in hand before releasing capital. Rather than waiting for supply to exist before starting buyer conversations, the producer listed upcoming offtakes on Market Gateway.

Within weeks, they'd responded to two active RFPs from buyers sourcing exactly that product, and secured a forward agreement well before their first shipment was ready. That signed offtake became the proof point their lenders needed, de-risking both the financing and the sales cycle.

A buyer, sourcing against a net zero target

A mid-sized manufacturer with an SBTi-validated target needed to source SAF certificates to address a growing share of scope 3 emissions from business travel and logistics. Instead of working through a single broker relationship and hoping the pricing was fair, the sustainability team ran an RFP directly on Market Gateway.

They received several producer responses, compared pricing and project details side-by-side, and selected supply that matched both their budget and their compliance requirements - with a clear, documented record of the sourcing process to support their next disclosure.

All in one place

Commodity Market Gateway sits alongside our existing carbon markets capability. That means whether you're managing carbon credits, EACs, SAF, or other lower-carbon commodities, sourcing, benchmarking, and transacting all happen in one place, instead of juggling separate tools and data sources for each commodity type.

Whether the driver is SBTi alignment or another compliance or voluntary target, the visibility is consistent across the board.
