Updated: Cookstoves Ratings Framework

Sylvera has strengthened scientific robustness across its updated cookstove Ratings framework.
Key improvements include the introduction of full Carbon Accounting scores replacing provisional ratings, updated fNRB testing aligned with MoFUSS defaults, enhanced monitoring assessments covering fuel savings, stove usage, and stove stacking, and expanded coverage to include fuel-switch and metered and measured stoves.
Additionality assessment has been sharpened with a renewed focus on project-level activities, incorporating stove type (ISO tiers), market penetration, and financial analysis. Safeguarding and co-benefits have been consolidated into a single holistic beyond-carbon assessment.
Together, these refinements reduce over-crediting risk, improve consistency across project types, and bring greater certainty to cookstove ratings.
In addition, the framework now provides a clearer, more granular view of quality across carbon accounting, additionality, permanence, and co-benefits pillars, enabling users to benchmark cookstove projects against market best practices.
For buyers, this lowers reputational, regulatory, and integrity risk by providing transparent, decision-ready insights into a project type that has historically been difficult to assess with confidence.
For developers, it offers clearer expectations around what constitutes high-quality monitoring and reporting, stronger differentiation in a competitive market, and the potential to reduce diligence friction in commercial discussions.
