Industrial Biochar Estimated Rating Framework

Biochar projects remove carbon dioxide by converting biomass into a stable, carbon-rich material through pyrolysis or gasification. The resulting biochar is applied to soils or other end uses where its carbon can remain stored for centuries.Credits are issued for net carbon removals after accounting for process and supply chain emissions, leakage, and feedstock counterfactuals. Version 1.0 of Sylvera’s Industrial Biochar Estimated Rating framework covers large-scale, centralized production, typically using continuous rather than batch processing. An EstimatedRating is an indicative range, such as A–BBB, derived from a limited set of material data points in public project documentation. It is not reviewed by a RatingsCommittee, not monitored and produced without developer engagement.
